The Department of Sociology recently conducted a successful two-day Community Awareness Programme in Chitlang on the 19th and 20th of Ashwin, 2080. The event aimed to raise social awareness on health and hygiene, gender equality, and environmental conservation. It featured an array of activities, including educational workshops, interactive sessions, and hands-on projects like tree planting. Key sessions were led by experts and a panel discussion on gender equality involving sociologists and local activists. The programme also included practical vocational training for women and open forums where community members could voice their concerns on various issues.
The programme significantly increased awareness among participants about critical social issues and fostered a greater sense of community engagement. Feedback highlighted the appreciation for practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, with requests for more frequent and diverse topics, including mental health. The event concluded with a call for ongoing efforts and follow-up sessions to ensure lasting impact. Recommendations for future initiatives include collaborating with more local organizations and expanding outreach to nearby communities to maximize the benefits of such programmes.
