Bhaktapur Multiple Campus, with the generous support of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal, successfully organized a three-day intensive workshop on High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) from Jestha 3 to Jestha 5, 2082.
The workshop, titled “Hands-on Training on HPLC (Agilent): Data Analysis and Column Optimization”, was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Shankar Prasad Khanal, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University, who emphasized the growing importance of advanced analytical techniques like HPLC for strengthening research and innovation in Nepal.
Prof. Dr. Arjun Gautam, Chairman of the Workshop, delivered an insightful inaugural speech highlighting the critical role of capacity building in modern chromatography and the need for universities to equip faculty and students with both theoretical foundations and hands-on expertise.
Dr. Kabita Luitel Bhattrai, Campus Chief of Bhaktapur Multiple Campus, in her welcome remarks, extended heartfelt thanks to the distinguished guests, resource persons, and participants. She underlined the campus’s commitment to promoting research culture and thanked the UGC for its continuous support.
The workshop featured contributions from renowned experts: Dr. Ramakanta Lamichhane, Assistant Professor at Kathmandu University, presented the concept, principle, and theoretical background of HPLC and guided participants on sample preparation and hands-on column optimization with diverse samples. Dr. Gorkha Raj Giri, Visiting Faculty at CDBT, TU, and Research Fellow at NAST, led sessions on chromatography fundamentals, HPLC troubleshooting, data analysis and interpretation, and mass spectroscopy. Bharat Khatiwada delivered an important session on chromatography system suitability parameters to ensure participants grasped quality assurance and performance metrics for reliable HPLC operation.
The workshop was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Kishor Hakuduwal, RMC Secretary, with dedicated assistance from Teaching Assistant Nabin Narayan Munkarmi, ensuring the smooth execution of all sessions from Jestha 3 onwards.
On Jestha 5, the program concluded with a closing session led by Dubi Nanda Dhakal, PhD, who expressed appreciation for the active engagement of all participants and resource persons. The closing session included the distribution of certificates to all participants, marking the successful completion of the hands-on training.
Bhaktapur Multiple Campus extends its sincere gratitude to UGC Nepal for supporting this capacity-building initiative, which has strengthened the practical skills and theoretical knowledge of faculty, researchers, and students in the field of chromatography and advanced laboratory analysis.
